| Fescue |

Description Fescue is a cool season grass grown mostly in the northern parts of the United States. It is especially well suited to relatively cool, moist growing conditions in “transition zone” areas where neither cool nor warm season grasses perform well. Characteristics Hot Weather Tolerance: Poor Shade Tolerance: Excellent (tolerates up to 80% shade at 2.5 “ mowing height) Wear Resistance: Moderate Salt Tolerance: Good Recovery From Injury: Moderate Winter Color: Green Mowing Height: 2” – 4”, frequency: 1x/week Disease, Weed & Insect Resistance: A well-maintained lawn will provide the best weed control but Fescue has a good disease, weed and insect resistance when maintained properly. Use: Residential and Commercial General Care Grows well in heavy clay to sandy soils. Above average tolerance to acidic, alkaline, saline, or poorly drained soils. Fescue fertilizer needs are: 0.1-0.5 pound of actual nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. per growing month. Needs less Phosphorous {PI and Potassium {K}. Fescue’s pH tolerance has a wide range of 4.7 – 8.5. Watering: Newly planted sod should be watered daily and soaked thoroughly to a depth of 3” for the first 10-14 days to avoid dry out. Thereafter as needed to prevent visual wilt. Mowing: Needs to be mowed every 4-7 days during the growing season at a mowing height of 2 – 4”. Slower growth habit can mean reduced mowing requirements. Overseeding: To ensure year round density in Southern Regions, it will be necessary to overseed at least once a year. *Sod installation is not recommended: June 1st – October 1st |
